All STEP files fail to translate in the DEU region: the manifest ends with "status": "failed", no derivatives and no error message. The identical file and job succeed in the US region. health.autodesk.com reports no outages.
Files:
- Different
STEPfiles tested, all of them fail - Open without issues in Autodesk Viewer and in Open CASCADE (CAD Assistant)
Steps to reproduce:
# 1. Bucket in DEU (verified afterwards with GET /oss/v2/buckets?region=DEU)
curl -X POST "https://developer.api.autodesk.com/oss/v2/buckets" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $TOKEN" -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "x-ads-region: DEU" \
-d '{"bucketKey":"","policyKey":"transient"}'
# 2. Upload the file via signeds3upload (GET signed URL, PUT file, POST to complete)
# 3. Start translation in DEU
curl -X POST "https://developer.api.autodesk.com/modelderivative/v2/designdata/job" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $TOKEN" -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "region: DEU" -H "x-ads-force: true" \
-d '{"input":{"urn":""},"output":{"formats":[{"type":"svf","views":["2d","3d"]}]}}'
# 4. Poll the manifest
curl "https://developer.api.autodesk.com/modelderivative/v2/designdata//manifest" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $TOKEN" -H "region: DEU"
The job is accepted ("result": "success"). After about 30 seconds the manifest is:
{
"type": "manifest",
"hasThumbnail": "false",
"status": "failed",
"progress": "complete",
"region": "DEU",
"version": "1.0",
"derivatives": []
}
There is no messages entry anywhere, so there is nothing to act on.
We've ruled out:
| Test | Result |
|---|---|
Same file, same job, US bucket + region: US |
✅ succeeds in ~30 s |
DEU, svf2 instead of svf |
❌ same empty failure |
| DEU, second, independent APS app | ❌ same empty failure |
| DEU, fresh transient bucket vs our production bucket | ❌ both fail |
| Cross-region setup | ruled out: bucket regions verified via GET /oss/v2/buckets?region=..., and the job's region header matches the bucket |
Other formats in the same DEU bucket (.nwd, .obj) |
✅ translate fine |
| The same geometry exported to OBJ, translated in DEU | ✅ succeeds |
Reproduced consistently from 2026-09-25 to 2026-09-28, so it doesn't look like a transient outage.
Questions:
- Is there a known issue with the STEP translator in the DEU region, or a version difference between DEU and US?
- Is there any way to get a diagnostic message for a job that fails with an empty
derivativesarray? - Is there a supported workaround that keeps the data in DEU (e.g. a translator option), other than converting the file to another format first?
