Is using an internal Discord bot credit system ("Nickel") considered Incentivized Engagement under YouTube API Services Policies?

I am currently developing a non-commercial, open-source Discord bot named JukeBox101, designed to help small community members discover and exchange music recommendations with friends.

Before deploying the bot with the YouTube Data API v3, I want to ensure that my internal curation mechanism fully complies with the YouTube API Services Developer Policies—specifically regarding the restrictions on Incentivized Engagement.

How the Bot Works:

  1. Submission: A user submits a YouTube video URL via a Discord command to share a track with the community.

  2. Metadata Validation (API Usage): The bot uses the YouTube Data API v3 (videos.list endpoint) purely on the backend to verify video details such as duration (e.g., filtering out 8-hour loop/ambient videos) to ensure the submission meets community guidelines.

  3. Internal Credit ("Nickel"): When a user successfully shares a unique and eligible song, they receive 1 virtual internal point called a "Nickel."

  4. Exchange: Spending 1 Nickel allows the user to request a music recommendation previously shared by another community member.

Key Characteristics of "Nickel":

  • Zero Monetary Value: "Nickel" cannot be purchased with real currency, sold, transferred, or redeemed for money/prizes outside or inside the bot.

  • No Platform Interaction: The system does NOT incentivize, require, or reward any interactions on the YouTube platform itself (e.g., no required likes, comments, channel subscriptions, ad clicks, or forced view counts).

  • Internal Rate Limiter: It purely functions as a rate-limiter and content-sharing exchange balance within the private Discord server.

My Questions:

  1. Does using the YouTube Data API v3 solely for backend duration/metadata validation subject this internal community credit mechanism ("Nickel") to YouTube’s Incentivized Engagement policy restrictions?

  2. Since the credit only incentivizes community sharing within Discord and not engagement metrics on YouTube, is this pattern compliant with API TOS?

Any advice or official Developer Relations insights on this compliance aspect would be greatly appreciated!
