Axios Network Error After Renewing SSL Certificate on Android 13 and Below
08:06 14 Oct 2025

I recently renewed the SSL certificate for my website, and now I'm facing a problem where the API call works fine on Postman and on Android 14 and above, but fails with an Axios network error on Android 13 and below. The code hasn't changed, only the SSL certificate was renewed.

Details:

  • Issue: The API works fine on Postman, and on Android 14 or higher devices, but throws an Axios network error on Android 13 or below.

  • SSL Renewal: The only recent change made was renewing the SSL certificate for the domain.

  • Error: When I inspect the error, I see Axios network error with no further details.

What I’ve Tried:

  • Checked the SSL certificate on both Android 14 and Android 13 devices, no issues on the newer version.

  • Tried using HTTP instead of HTTPS (but this is not an option for production, just for debugging).

  • Cleared app data and cache to rule out local storage issues.

  • Ensured the API URL is accessible on Android 13 devices through a browser (it works fine in browser).

  • Tested on Android 12, and it also throws the error.

  • Verified the certificate chain is properly installed and valid via online SSL checkers.

Questions:

  • Could there be an issue with how SSL/TLS versions are handled on older Android versions (Android 13 and below)?

  • Is there any change required in Axios configuration or any other libraries to support older Android versions post SSL renewal?

  • Could this be a problem with intermediate certificates or the device's certificate store?

  • Are there any workarounds to fix SSL connection issues specifically for older Android versions after renewing an SSL certificate?

Additional Information:

  • Axios version: ^1.12.2

  • Android versions tested: Android 13, Android 12, and Android 14.

Any help would be appreciated!
