I am trying to use react-native-maps in my React Native mobile app, but I am unable to use Google Maps because of an authorization failure:
Google Maps Android API: Error requesting API token. StatusCode=INVALID_ARGUMENT [CONTEXT service_id=71 ]
Google Android Maps SDK: Authorization failure. Please see https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/android-sdk/start for how to correctly set up the map.
Google Android Maps SDK: In the Google Developer Console (https://console.developers.google.com)
Google Android Maps SDK: Ensure that the "Maps SDK for Android" is enabled.
Google Android Maps SDK: Ensure that the following Android Key exists:
Google Android Maps SDK: API Key: AIzaXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Google Android Maps SDK: Android Application (;): XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;com.project.development
In order to trouble-shoot this issue, I have already tried and double-checked everything that could be causing this, but without success.
Please find below a checklist of things I have already tried and double-checked. What am I missing here?
Versions
-------------------------------
| package | version |
|-------------------|-----------|
| firebase | ^12.4.0 |
| react-native-maps | ~1.20.1 |
-------------------------------
Checklist
1) Verify that the API-Key exists
Since I am using Firebase, I find an API-key under https://console.cloud.google.com/apis/credentials. That said, I have tested this with the auto-generated key and a manually created one.
In any case, the Firebase auto-generated key does not have any appliction restrictions, which is why the error above is slightly confusing.
That said, however, I do have a Client ID for Android with the correct fingerprint:package-name
2) Verify that the AndroidManifest.xml uses the correct API-Key
With apktool d android/app/build/outputs/apk/debug/app-debug.apk I have verified, that the AndroidManifest.xml is showing the correct API-Key but please note: The error is already printing the API-Key to the console so this step can be considered a sanity check.
3) Verify google-services.development.json is correct
I have one file for each environment and I have verified that A) the intended API-Key is set and that B) the correct OAuth clients are provided as well. In my case here, everything looks correct:
4) Verify that the correct bundle ID is used com.project.development
In my app.config.ts, I am setting the bundle identifier accordingly.
5) Clean and re-install the app
I have removed the app on my physical device and removed all local files before re-installing everything.
