Why is hydrogen becoming such an important part of the clean energy conversation?

I’ve been reading more about clean energy trends lately, and one thing that keeps coming up is hydrogen.

What I find interesting is how hydrogen is being positioned as more than just another renewable energy option. It seems especially useful for industries that are difficult to electrify directly, like steel manufacturing, heavy transport, shipping, and aviation.

A few reasons it seems to be getting so much attention:

  • It can help store excess renewable energy

  • It offers a possible solution for long-duration energy storage

  • It could support decarbonization in industrial sectors

  • It has potential for heavy-duty mobility applications

Of course, there are still challenges like infrastructure, cost, and scaling production.

Curious to hear what people here think. Is hydrogen genuinely the next big clean energy breakthrough, or is it still too early to tell?
