Advice for transitioning into web development from a non-technical background
19:51 23 Apr 2026

I recently decided to move into web development after working in a non-technical job as a forklift operator. I’ve started studying (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript), and I’m really enjoying the learning process so far.

At the same time, I sometimes feel unsure about whether I’m approaching this the right way, especially since I don’t come from a tech background.

I’d really appreciate some advice from people who have been through a similar transition or are already working in the field:

  • What helped you most when you were starting out?

  • What should I focus on in the early stages (projects, fundamentals, frameworks, etc.)?

  • How do you know when you’re ready to start applying for jobs?

  • Are there any common mistakes beginners from non-tech backgrounds should avoid?

I’m willing to put in the time and effort, I just want to make sure I’m moving in the right direction.

Thanks in advance 🙏
