Unity 6 - Dark/Jagged Shadow-Like Artifacts Visible Even With Lighting Disabled
09:56 05 Jun 2026

I'm using Unity 6 (URP) and I'm seeing dark jagged/shadow-like artifacts on my ground mesh.

What I've tried

  • Disabled my Directional Light ("Morning Sun")

  • Disabled my Global Volume

  • Removed the Terrain completely

  • The artifacts are still visible

  • The artifacts are visible in both the Scene View and Game View

Additional observations

  • Since the artifacts remain when the Directional Light is disabled, I don't think they are actual shadows.

  • They appear as dark patches or jagged lines on the ground.

  • I can also see a diagonal line across the scene.

  • The issue remains even after removing the Terrain object.

Environment

  • Unity 6

  • URP (Universal Render Pipeline)

  • Windows

Question

What could cause dark shadow-like artifacts to remain visible in Scene View even after disabling the Directional Light and Global Volume?

Are there any Unity 6 / URP debug views, rendering settings, decals, baked lighting, z-fighting issues, or material settings that could produce this effect?

Any suggestions on how to diagnose the source of these artifacts would be appreciated.
