So I've been messing about with this all day and it's been driving me mad. For reference I'm aggressively average with computers so I'm by no means an expert.
For info I'm on Windows 11 on a Galaxy Book 4 Edge, with a Snapdragon X Plus. I picked up a new, totally blank, 256GB USB today with the intention of installing some large files on it (>100GB), however when trying to install said files they said they require a NTFS file format to install. I looked up how to format my USB and tried doing a quick format in File Explorer by right clicking on the drive under This PC. It got as far as starting the conversion but then a few secs later a message pops up saying that windows was unable to format. Following this, I tried rather than a quick format, doing a full conversion of the format, it took like an hour and eventually came up with the same error message.
At this point I'd been researching how to format files on windows and attempting it for about 3 hours, so I asked my flatmate who is an undergrad computer science student. He couldn't figure out what was wrong so we tried formatting the USB on his laptop. He's on Linux, an OS which, as far as I'm aware, is able to format to NTFS so we plugged the USB in, and it didn't show up on his laptop (neither of us know why) in any of the USB ports, and Linux should be able to read exFAT (current format of the USB. He also managed to get his USB to work on his laptop so it's not the USB port on his laptop, or the USB itself because it works on mine. He's messaged his course mates but hasn't heard anything back since so I kept looking online.
Eventually I came across a Reddit post which provided some methods for formatting, (https://www.reddit.com/r/computer/s/ZFDyP2VBol) namely: on File Explorer (as already attempted), through command prompts as an administrator. I executed the commands and it was looking promising - it said formatting 0% - but then a few seconds later, unable to execute command.
I'm at a loss for what to do (like I said, I'm by no means great at using computers). I've looked around on stack and can find no mention of this specific problem but any tips, pointers to articles or general advice would be greatly appreciated.
