I am working on a project to join approximately 1,000 devices to Intune in shared mode with device-only licenses.
I have enrolled a test batch via PKG with the “mark device as shared” option checked. The devices enroll in Intune without any issues and receive the self-deploying Autopilot profile assigned to them. They appear compliant and perform a full sync when I initiate it with my account. However, after some time, I noticed these devices stop syncing entirely.
They only sync if a user with an Intune license logs in and manually triggers the sync.
When any other user logs in, the devices do not sync, either through Graph API or via the sync button in the Intune portal.
I have device-only licenses. It seems that when an Entra user logs in, Intune expects them to have an Intune license, but we’re talking about a shared device.
The users don’t have Intune licenses; they are agents with E1 licenses for web Office use only.
Any ideas for a workaround to keep those devices in sync without having to manually update them from time to time?
