I’m trying to build a flexible, template-driven production model in AnyLogic.
The structure of the model is defined in an Excel file where each row represents a process step. I would like to create a table with three columns: the first for the Process Name, the second for the Duration, and the third for the Next Process.
My goal is to load this file at model startup and automatically generate the production flow.
Specifically, I want AnyLogic to:
Read the Excel table.
Instantiate the appropriate process block for each row (e.g.,
Service,Delay, or a custom agent type).Programmatically connect each block to the next one according to
NEXT_PROCESS_ID.
My questions:
What is the preferred way in AnyLogic to dynamically create process blocks at runtime from an external template (Excel)?
Is it possible to programmatically connect blocks together just like manually linking ports in the process flow diagram?
Would it be more appropriate to represent each process as an agent and connect agents with custom logic instead of using standard process blocks?
Can this approach be implemented in the AnyLogic Personal Learning Edition, or does it require the Professional/University license (due to dynamic object creation or Java limitations)?
I currently have a simple Excel file with three columns and four rows, and I want the model to reconstruct this flow automatically without manually placing or linking blocks.
Any examples or guidance on how to achieve this would be very helpful.
